Experience history and nature up close!
We will explore the Grünes Band by bike, the former death strip of the inner-German border. Today, the Grünes Band is a unique natural area: a sanctuary for rare plants and animals and at the same time a place of remembrance.
Accommodation: Bunte Vier
Our base is the seminar and guest house “Bunte Vier” (Pretzierer Str. 25, 29410 Salzwedel), a lovingly restored manor in the Altmark region (more info about the accommodation available here).
- Sleeping arrangements: two 6-bed rooms, one 4-bed room, two 2-bed rooms (please bring bed linen or sleeping bag, towel & slippers)
- Seminar area: spacious room with fireplace, projector, flipchart, sound system, and more
- Kitchen & meals: self-catering kitchen – we cook together and go shopping together
- Outdoor area: fire pit, grill, pizza oven, surrounded by large forest, meadows, and playgrounds
- Surroundings: 6 km to Salzwedel
Important: Please bring your own bike. If you don’t have one, feel free to contact us – we’ll find a solution together.
Program (preliminary):
We’re happy to adapt the program together on short notice. Travel information is provided in the registration form.
Friday
- 16:10 – Arrival at Salzwedel train station
17:15–18:30 – Group shopping (supermarket near the station)
18:30–19:00 – Bike ride to the accommodation
19:00–20:30 – Prepare and eat dinner together
Evening – Campfire, games, getting to know each other
Samstag
- Breakfast at the accommodation
Day trip by bike along the Grünes Band: - Hoyersburg Border Tower: The tower tells the history of the inner-German border and offers a view of the Grünes Band
- Lunch: Picnic at the Brietzer Teiche, natural waters with colorful wet meadows, home to cranes, sea and fish eagles, dragonflies, amphibians, and rare orchids
- Afternoon: Circular walk around the ponds, exploring nature, using observation stations
Return to the accommodation - Evening – Relaxed gathering, optional trip to Salzwedel
Sonntag
- Breakfast at the accommodation
- Optional: visit the Jahrsau memorial and Chüden Border Tower
- Bike ride back to Salzwedel
- Departure from the train station
